| Abundance is a temporary public installation commissioned for the City of San Jose, California, by ZER01 – the Art and Technology Network. Although created for projection onto the San Jose City Hall, Utterback has adjusted the parameters of the original Abundance piece to work on a smaller scale, while preserving its principle visual elements and behaviors.
While Utterback’s previous room-scale installations react primarily to the movement of individuals, Abundance illustrates the behaviors of individuals in relation to one another. For example, people’s silhouettes change from cool colors to warm colors as they gather in groups of two or more. The piece also displays more goal-oriented behaviors than some of Utterback’s previous works, where participants can release icons into the piece by crossing over the white lines. |
